Produced within the Montilla-Moriles DO and using exclusively the Pedro Ximénez (PX) grape variety, the brand honours the contributions to the universal culture of Cordoba, its place of origin. It takes its name after Helvia, mother of the Stoic philosopher Seneca, both natives of the city.

Engraved on the glass is a quote by the Roman thinker: "No man loses anything by the frowns of Fortune unless her smiles have already deceived him." taken from one of his famous consolation letters, this one dedicated to his mother from exile in Corsica. In it, Seneca explains stoicism to her mother "the wise man is neither elated by prosperity nor depressed by adversity; for he has always endeavored to depend chiefly upon himself and to derive all his joys from himself."
